What do you like about HMSS?
My favorite part of Honors Medical Scholars is the opportunity it provides. As a member of this organization, I am able to collaborate with other like-minded, similarly driven peers, I am able to learn from medical professionals that work in the field, to network and get involved, and also receive guidance and mentorship. Overall, this program has given me an outstanding opportunity to grow into a future medical professional.
Why do you want to go into medicine?
I have always harbored an innate interest in the practice of medicine, diagnosing a problem and then being able to be the person that helps resolve the problem and bring the patient back to their family. I believe that a career in medicine would bring me fulfillment and purpose as well as challenge me, both personally and professionally.
Growing up in a rural community with limited healthcare options, I appreciate the need for quality healthcare in all areas of our state. A career in medicine would help me to be part of the change for not only my small town, but the many others that lack quality healthcare, to be able to care for these people and bring them back to their families. In my opinion, it doesn't get more full circle than that.
