What do you like about HMSS?
The HMSS allows me to surround myself with like-minded individuals who share very similar goals. It fosters a community of individuals who want nothing but to see each other succeed. It also allows us to fulfill our urge to help those around us. While the journey towards medical school is a notoriously competitive one, I feel as if the mere thought of competition doesn’t exist in HMSS. I admire the fact that my peers in HMSS make it so that it is a place I can turn to when I need help and when I need comfort, while allowing me to do the same for others.
Why do you want to go into medicine?
One major element that makes me who I am is my curiosity; I’ve always been an extremely curious individual, and medicine has allowed me to completely explore that curiosity through becoming familiar with the human body, its functions, and pathogens that could harm it. The other part of me has always wanted to help others and medicine allows me to serve those who are in need and to make differences in the lives around me. After shadowing many medical professionals in high school, I’m positive that I want to pursue a career in medicine, as it satisfies my curiosity and satiates my hunger to help others.
