Suzanne Johnson is new APA president

Suzanne Bennett Johnson, Distinguished Research Professor in the FSU College of Medicine’s Department of Medical Humanities and Social Sciences, became president of the American Psychological Association Jan. 1.

The APA has 150,000 members, making it the largest association of psychologists in the world. It is based in Washington, D.C.

“I hope to have an actual product at the end of my presidency that will be shared by a number of organizations besides APA,” Johnson said, adding that the APA should serve to educate health professionals about the important ways psychologists can contribute as members of primary health-care teams.

“We have so much to contribute as scientists and health-care professionals; it’s incumbent upon us to make that known,” she said.
