What do you like about HMSS?

I love being part of HMSS because it is a community of students who genuinely care about helping each other succeed and working together to serve the underserved.  HMSS is comprised of individuals who are passionate about making positive, meaningful contributions to their community.  Serving alongside like-minded students who care about the well-being of both one another and members of their community in need is a one-of-a-kind experience that is simultaneously empowering and humbling.

Why do you want to go into medicine?

I want to go into medicine because it is one of the only fields that combines my love of science and love of people. Through serving at my local hospital in high school, I was able to observe physicians who genuinely listened and cared for their patients, allowing them to feel secure in an environment that can sometimes bring uncertainty.  I knew that I wanted to become a doctor from the time I was little, but this experience reinforced to me the great need for doctors who understand that the profession is first and foremost one of service.  I knew that I would become a physician who acknowledged that those who have the incredible ability to save lives should do so solely out of dedication to the well-being of those who need them.
