What do you like about HMSS?

What I like about HMSS is that everyone is always willing to help out or offer a friendly face. Any problem that you have you can bring to another HMSS member and find support or guidance, and everyone wants you to be successful rather than it being a competition. You can pass other HMSS members on the way to class and receive a smile and a wave. HMSS also provides opportunities for service, leadership, and education that are vital to becoming a physician that really cares about their patients. Being part of a group of people with the same interests as you who are so kind is unlike anything else.

Why do you want to go into medicine?

I want to go into medicine to provide safe, nonjudgmental care to all different types of patients, and to make lasting connections with them. Too often patients are written off prematurely due to their appearance or their backgrounds, and they receive substandard care because of it. As a physician, I’d strive to give high quality care to everyone, regardless of preexisting circumstances. I’d try to be a friendly face, but also a competent caregiver who my patients could trust wholeheartedly and bring their families to for many years. It is my personal belief that good health care starts with good communication, and I’d like to be the type of physician that any patient can come to and be treated with kindness and respect.
