What do you like about HMSS?
My favorite part of HMSS are the people I have met and the opportunities provided. It has allowed me to be introduced to individuals with like-minded goals and interests who are similar to mine, while also being surrounded by a supportive group to help me during my undergraduate years. In addition, gaining knowledge and guidance from Dr. Speights, Dr. Foster and older scholars has been a reassuring presence. I also love how HMSS places an emphasis on creating driven doctors who love their work and the unique services they provide us to become involved in.
Why do you want to go into medicine?
I feel that being a doctor is a career that is made up of individuals that are driven by passion, curiosity, and patience - personality traits that I live out. The trust that is built between patients and doctors is one of value and the long-lasting impact that physicians create not only on their patients, but also on the families, fosters an opportunity to serve the most in need during times of hardships. Furthermore, seeing the care my father, a physician and educator, has provided to his patients firsthand inspires me every day and the compassion that he has displayed motivates me to pursue in his footsteps. Medicine is also a job that matches with my curious personality because it places me in environments where I am continuously challenged and learn new things.
