Message from the Program Director

Andrea Austin, M.D., MS-HPEd

Welcome to the Florida State University – Ascension Sacred Heart Emergency Medicine Residency.

As the inaugural program director, it is an honor to help launch a residency program rooted in service, innovation, well-being, and leadership. Emergency medicine is at the forefront of today’s changing healthcare landscape, and our program is designed to prepare you not just to adapt, but to lead.

Here, you will train in a Level I trauma center with a comprehensive children’s hospital, gaining the breadth of experience necessary to manage the sickest patients across all ages. You will be supported by a team of passionate faculty who bring expertise in simulation, ultrasound, EMS, research, and well-being.

But beyond the clinical training, our focus is on developing you as a whole physician—equipping you with the tools to sustain your own well-being, innovate in the face of challenges, and lead teams with integrity and compassion.

We look forward to welcoming residents who are ready to serve, to innovate, and to step into leadership roles that will shape the future of emergency medicine.
