Dr. Berg's Retirement party

Renee Hamad, Dean Berg, and Dean Bentze

It was a moving, emotional night as friends, family and peers gathered at Michael’s on East to honor Dr. Bruce Berg on the eve of his retirement as dean of the FSU regional medical school campus in Sarasota. On hand were FSU College of Medicine Dean John P. Fogarty, Berg’s replacement at the regional campus, Nicole Bentze, and event sponsor Renee Hamad, whose idea it was to honor Dr. Berg. Speakers included Jim Tollerton, Fogarty, Dan Bailey, Duncan Finlay and graduate Marc Bernstein. Bailey’s story of how Berg (his neighbor) saved his daughter’s life after a swimming pool accident, was especially moving. “Thank you for breathing life back into our little girl,” Bailey told Berg. The Sarasota regional campus has graduated 12 classes, and more than 200 students. “You have impacted an entire generation of students,” Fogarty said. “This is your legacy.”
