Curriculum

One (1) year fellowship split into:

Fellow in Egypt
While in Egypt, Former Fellow Dr. Michael Heiland enjoyed time with family and seeing the sights!

 

  • Up to 6 months at international training sites divided into 2-3 month blocks. Fellows in the past have traveled to Honduras, Egypt, Kenya, Papua New guinea, Peru, Liberia and El Salvador.
  • Remainder of time spent in Fort Myers fulfilling part-time junior faculty role including:
    • Inpatient
    • Outpatient (precepting residents and personal clinic)
    • OB (if desired, not required)
    • Global health lectures and participation in resident didactics
    • Assisting with Point-of-Care Ultrasound Workshops (no prior experience needed)
    • Participating in weekly Faculty Meetings
  • Schedule allows for flexibility and protected learning time for:
    • Faculty development
    • Tropical medicine
    • Point-of-Care Ultrasound (Fellows to be assigned a handheld device)
    • Language skills
    • Care of migrant farmworker population in Immokalee, Florida
    • HIV / HEP C / PreP
    • Mobile Health Clinic
    • Opportunities for research and scholarly activity
