On behalf of the entire staff at the Florida State University College of Medicine Family Medicine Residency Program at Lee Memorial Health System (Fort Myers), I want to thank you for your interest in our program. Our mission is to develop family physicians who are leaders in the community and who will provide high-quality, affordable primary care which includes treatment, prevention and health promotion for all patients. We will train our residents to care for the physical, spiritual, and emotional needs of patients, their families and the community.

Located in beautiful southwest Florida, the Fort Myers area is well-known for its beautiful beaches (Sanibel Island, Captiva, Fort Myers Beach, and many other vacation destinations), historical areas (winter homes of Thomas Edison and Henry Ford), sporting activities (home of spring training for Boston Red Sox and Minnesota Twins), and affordable housing and waterfront properties. The area has numerous biking trails, easily accessible waterways, boating, sports facilities, cultural events, colleges, and universities.

I am honored to serve as the Founding Program Director. I have been working with residency programs since 1984 and most recently served for 13 years as the Program Director at Self Regional Healthcare in Greenwood, South Carolina. The opportunity to develop a new residency program in such a great system has been a thrilling experience for me! We are blessed with enormous resources of the Florida State University College of Medicine and Lee Memorial Health System -- a supportive teaching hospital and medical staff; an energetic, diverse and dedicated faculty; Epic, a mature electronic medical record system available for both inpatient and outpatient services; a new Family Medicine Center and a large number of receptive and challenging patients.
