Medical Student Research: Loneliness in Older Adults
Natalie Bonus, M2, worked with the Department of Geriatrics' Dr. Antonio Terracciano to analyze data from the Health and Retirement Study. In their analysis, they examined whether certain sociodemographic groups were disproportionately affected by loneliness and therefore at risk for early mortality. Using SPSS, they found that there was no significant interaction with demographics, including race and ethnicity, indicating that risk is similar across groups. Natalie's work was sponsored by the FSU CoM's Summer Research Fellowship program.
