White Coats for Black Lives
June 8, 2020
The medical and PA students came together as one for White Coats for Black Lives. They gathered recently to advocate for social justice for the community, patients and the Fort Pierce Regional Campus team. The event, all student organized, included words of welcome from the campus dean, Dr. Juliette Lomax-Homier, M3 student Maurice Facey, and M4 student Malcolm Dix, who spoke about the United States Constitution. The group made posters, then traveled to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center and stood near their entrance. Their passion shone brightly as they assembled in solidarity, waving their signs and demonstrating their collaborative spirit.
Passing ambulances sounded their sirens, horns were honked, and people waved or stopped to take photos. The students ended the event with a moment of silence, the group on their knees. The students were thankful to use their voices and participate in something that will be forever meaningful to them. This conversation will be continued at the Florida State University College of Medicine.
