Aspiring Physician Scholarship Application

Dear Scholarship Applicant,
Greetings from the Florida State University College of Medicine Chapter of the Student National Medical Association (SNMA). We have expanded our undergraduate outreach to acknowledge outstanding pre-medical students by supporting them through an undergraduate scholarship. The SNMA Aspiring Physician Scholarship will be awarded to outstanding undergraduate students who demonstrate scholastic achievement, a strong history of service within the community, and a desire to continue a life of service through the field of medicine.

Mission Statement:

To recognize, mentor, and encourage outstanding underrepresented minority pre-medical students to continue striving towards a career in the field of medicine through scholarship opportunities.

Scholarship Criteria:

  • Pre-medical student
  • Undergraduate sophomore or junior
  • Minimum GPA: 3.3 (or, last 30 credits equates 3.3)
  • Outstanding history of community service (with high emphasis placed on service to underserved, elderly or rural populations) and/or research experience
  • Interested in attending Florida State University College of Medicine
  • Applicant cannot be a previous recipient of this scholarship

Scholarship Details:
The 2017-2018 scholarship application deadline is January 22nd, 2018. The completed application and supporting documents must be received by mail, with a postmark date no later than January 22nd. Completed applications and supporting documents can also be dropped off at the Department of Student Affairs at the FSU College of Medicine (2nd floor). Deadline extension will not be granted. Semi-finalists will be contacted by email to schedule an interview. The interviews stimulate a real medical school interview with FSU faculty evaluations. Finalists will be notified no later than March 16, 2018. Please Note: First place will receive a $1000 scholarship, second place will receive a $500 scholarship, and third and fourth place will receive MCAT preparation material. All finalists will participate in an ongoing mentorship with Florida State University College of Medicine medical students.

  • Two Sealed Letters of Recommendation (one that addresses your character/volunteer work and another that addresses your scholastics); two letters cannot be from the same individual
