April graduated summa cum laude with a baccalaureate degree in molecular cellular biology from Florida A&M University (FAMU). During her premedical studies, she tutored and mentored youth, participated in the Florida-Georgia Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation, and served as a leader in FAMU’s Incomparable Marching 100 Band. She traveled to Milwaukee to conduct research in cell biology at the Medical College of Wisconsin. The purpose of her study was to assess the efficacy of passive stretch in regenerating muscle tissue to benefit stroke victims who have experienced muscle atrophy. April earned a master’s degree in medical sciences, magna cum laude, from the University of South Florida. She began a career as a course specialist for MedCure hosting bioskills labs at the Center for Advanced Medical Learning and Simulation in Tampa. She also served as an adjunct instructor at St. Petersburg College and Hillsborough Community College teaching anatomy and physiology. April was drawn to FSU’s College of Medicine because of its mission to address community needs in rural, minority and underserved populations. She aspires to use her training to serve in disadvantaged communities.
