Christopher Garrett

Class of 2018

Hometown: Marathon, Fla.
Undergraduate Degree: Florida State University

Chris graduated magna cum laude from Florida State University’s College of Human Sciences with a degree in exercise science in 2013. During his undergraduate program Chris provided community service through many different organizations, including Wounded Warriors Project, American Cancer Society, Kidz First Fund and many more. Chris was also an avid leader in his fraternity, Theta Chi, serving as a vice president for three semesters. When Chris began to realize his dream was to become a physician, he sought out multiple shadowing opportunities. He started with observation in the operating room at Tallahassee Orthopedic Clinic, which served to increase his curiosity, leading him to shadow in the ER at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital and at a family practice in Tallahassee. Chris always had a deep passion for athletics and physical fitness, which led him to become a fitness instructor, personal trainer, group exercise instructor and shift supervisor for campus recreation. Once Chris graduated he began working as a medical assistant at a family practice in Tallahassee, which gave him the opportunity to practice an extensive number of medical tasks, including taking vitals, venipuncture, injections and EKGs. It also gave him valuable insight into the day-to-day operations of a family practice. Chris chose to attend the Florida State College of Medicine because he wants to pursue a career in rural medicine, providing necessary care to those both home and abroad.
