About the FMA
Medical
Student Section is the student portion of the FMA, which is one
of the state sections of the AMA. The same goes for the FMA when
it comes to being a member. All specialties are represented and
for a medical student it is a great opportunity to meet plenty
of physicians, residents, and medical students in Florida. All
of the Florida chapters of medical students are very strong in
the FMA and participate in all activities. There are FMA and AMA
chapters at Miami, USF, and UF.
The FSU College of Medicine’s
new chapter is up and running and we plan on being an integral
part of what goes on in the state of Florida and at the national
level. The FMA will sponsor events like lunch speakers, CV
writing workshops, and info tables in the union, and participate
in the AMA national service project. This year’s service project
is Anti-Tobacco Education, but it changes every two years. Once
again the dues for a 4-year membership are nominal, but being
involved can help you find some direction as to what kind of
medicine you are interested in. FMA has an annual meeting that
changes locations yearly, but is tons of fun and very
educational.Mission Statement
The Florida Medical Association serves as an
advocate for physicians and their patients to promote the public
health, to ensure high standards in medical education and
ethics, and to enhance the quality and availability of health
care.
