On December 7, 2011, at the European Parliament, the World Health Organization (WHO) unveiled a series of studies on local production of medicines in developing countries. One of these studies is the work of Professor Frederick Abbott. Professor Abbott’s work on this commenced in 2009. The report was presented in Brussels, Belgium. Professor Abbott also made a presentation at the trilateral meeting of directors-general of the WHO, World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), and World Trade Organization (WTO) in Geneva, Switzerland, on November 23, 2011, which reflected the results of a working paper he was commissioned to prepare for that meeting.
