Undergraduate Research Opportunities

Undergraduate research experience provides a means by which undergraduates can participate in, and meaningfully contribute to, the research programs of the faculty in the Department of Biomedical Sciences - FSU College of Medicine. In addition to providing valuable technical training, such research experience affords students a better understanding of science as a career. This experience can prove invaluable in helping students to plan and prepare for their own post-baccalaureate careers - whether in research, medicine or industry.

Student: Liam Longo Major: Biochemistry Semesters in Research: Fall 2005 - present Advisor: Dr. Michael Blaber Professional goal: Ph.D. program in physical biochemistry or biophysics Liam is working on a cell suspension, which will be used for protein expression of mutant forms of Fibroblast Growth Factor-1.	Student: Patrice Williams Major: Biomedical Mathematics/Music Semesters in Research: Summer 2008 - present Advisor: Dr. Ewa (Ava) Bienkiewicz Professional goal: Naturopathic Doctor (ND) Patrice is preparing buffer solutions to be used in studies focused on the role of amyloid beta protein in Alzheimer's disease.
