GHHS Guide to Life, the Universe, and Everything

Through this outreach project GHHS members reach out to first, second, and third year students to provide advice, recommendations, and support as they navigate medical school. This includes an updated guide sent out to students each year as well as a panel of GHHS members available to second year students as they prepare to enter their clinical rotations. This also includes an e-mail account titled 'Ask GHHS' through which students may send in any questions that will then be answered by the GHHS members best suited to respond to their specific needs.

HEAL Humanism in Medicine Essay Contest

Our annual essay contest done in partnership with HEAL (Humanism Evolving through Arts and Literature) challenges members of the FSU College of Medicine community to respond to a prompt which reflects the values of GHHS. The contest is done each Spring and prompts change yearly. Check your FSU COM e-mail for more details on the contest. E-mails are sent out early in the Spring semester.

Annual Match Day Food Drive

Each year GHHS hosts a college-wide food drive benefitting the Second Harvest of the Big Bend. Non-perishable items are collected at regional campuses as well as the main campus in Tallahassee. The final collection is done each year on Match Day as students from all campuses return to find out where they matched for residency. In the past collections have been up to 2,000 pounds!

Humanism Grand Rounds

Each year the GHHS hosts a grand rounds lecture focused on humanism in medicine. The speaker is selected and invited by members of the GHHS to present at grand rounds at the main campus in Tallahassee. Keep an eye out for the coming year's humanism grand rounds!

Humanism Book Club

The humanism book club at FSU College of Medicine was an initiative started in 2020. Members of the FSU COM community were asked for submissions of books that illustrate the values of humanism in medicine. Answers were compiled into the file below for the community to access as sources of enjoyment and inspiration. Also included below is the link to the national GHHS page and their book recommendations.
