Michael J. Sweeney, M.D., a PIMS alumnus from 1975, has graciously volunteered to serve as the inaugural chair of the College of Medicine Alumni Board. The board contains alumni of both the College of Medicine and the Program in Medical Sciences (PIMS), the predecessor of Florida State’s four-year medical school.
The alumni board will meet two times a year – at the annual alumni reunion in April and during Florida State’s annual homecoming weekend (ordinarily scheduled between mid-October and early November). Examples of duties the board will be performing include:
Currently, there are 336 graduates of the Florida State College of Medicine. In addition, the college counts more than 800 PIMS graduates as an important part of its legacy. The College of Medicine’s mission builds upon the PIMS mission, and including PIMS alumni provides an invaluable resource in guiding the alumni board’s goals and objectives.
Ryan Little, senior director for development, and Alexa Von Staden, alumni affairs and special events coordinator, assist Sweeney with alumni board management and other activities.
The College of Medicine’s goal is to empower its alumni to engage in activities that will provide guidance, resources and support to medical students, alumni, faculty and staff.
