Description: 1. Discuss practical ways to engage students in using the Confusion Assessment Method to determine if there is any delirium in their patient. A case based format will be used to promote discussion. 2. Understand circumstances to suggest to students use of a brief cognitive screen like a 3 word recall and clock draw for efficient screening in patients with risk factors for cognitive impairment but who seem to otherwise be functioning well. 3. Compare and contrast benefits of more extensive cognitive screens like the Montreal Cognitive Assessment with its alternatives. 4. Discuss key parts of cognitive evaluation that students can be observed doing to ensure proper administration of the test, using Montreal Cognitive Assessment as an example. 5. Practice advising students on handling difficult test administration situations such as severe visual or hearing impairment.
