Biosketch
Debra A. Allan Danforth, MS, ARNP, FAANP, is the director of the Charlotte E. Maguire, M.D. and TMH Center for Clinical Skills and Simulation Center and associate professor at Florida State University College of Medicine. In addition, she is an adult nurse practitioner at Neighborhood Health, where her clinical practice focuses on the primary care of African-American and Hispanic adults. She also is an instructor at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU), College of Pharmacy. She is recipient of the Woman in Red 2006, AANP State Award of Excellence 2004, Delta Beta Excellence in Leadership award 2002 and was chosen for the Sigma Theta Tau International Omada Mentee for 2005-2007 (a leadership mentorship), was FAMU Teacher of the Year 2005, became a fellow of the AANP in 2005, and is an STTI Virginia Henderson and Billye Brown Fellow. Ms. Danforth is currently the secretary, and is a past president, of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Foundation Board of Directors. She is currently the Florida Nurse Practitioner Network legislative chair. In the past, she has been a member of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners nominating committee, president of the Tallahassee Council of Advanced Practice Nurses, and a reviewer for the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Foundation Scholarship & Grant Program. She has presented regionally, nationally and internationally on topics including OSCEs (objective structured clinical examinations), diabetes, hypertension, self-esteem in chemically impaired nurses, basic and advanced electrocardiography, adolescent in sex and how to use the panoptic ophthalmoscope and macroview otoscope. She has also published articles and book chapters. Currently, she is an editor of Smart Ideas and reviewer for HESI, Elsevier and FA Davis.
