Job Description

|
Dr. Van Durme leads the department of family medicine and rural health, one of five academic departments in the FSU College of Medicine. Rural health is one of the priority areas in the college's mission.
|

Biosketch
|
|
Prior to joining FSU in June 2004, Dr. Van Durme was vice chairman of the department of family medicine at the University of South Florida in Tampa. While at USF, he taught in all four years of the curriculum and received numerous teaching awards, including the Sir William Osler Award for Outstanding Faculty Role Model. Dr. Van Durme is a nationally known teacher and leader in family medicine. He is a highly rated teacher for continuing medical education programs for practicing physicians. He is a past president of the Florida Academy of Family Physicians and served on the board of directors of the American Academy of Family Physicians, as well as several other national organizations. Before taking his position at USF, he was in private practice in semi-rural Land O’ Lakes, Fla., where he provided a full spectrum of care to the residents of Pasco County. Dr. Van Durme also has an interest in sports medicine and has served as team physician for college and professional sports teams in Tampa. He has also been very active in international humanitarian efforts and international medical education development in several countries. |
