The after-school
program is offered to students at four public high schools in Leon
County. The after-school program serves as feeder program into
the undergraduate SSTRIDE program. It is in the after-school program where
the high school students really get serious about their dreams
of becoming a healthcare professional. The students are provided
with academic tutoring, enrichment activities, research projects
and admission and financial aide seminars. The students are also
exposed to career shadowing opportunities and externships with
local healthcare facilities and physician offices. The students
in the after-school program are partnered with mentors in the
SSTRIDE center at the College of Medicine, where they have
access to a high-tech computer lab and study rooms for doing
their homework. During the summer sessions, SSTRIDE high school
juniors and seniors
participate in an extensive SAT preparation course. High
school seniors are also provided externship opportunities at the
local hospitals, clinics, and physician offices. |
