ALPHA EPSILON DELTA (AED)
Alpha Epsilon Delta is the pre-health profession honor society. The
society welcomes members who are planning careers in medicine,
pharmacy, chiropractics, optometry, dentistry, and podiatry. The
Florida-Beta chapter was founded in 1946 and is one of the oldest
chapters in the Southeast. The society invites speakers from various
health professions, plans trips to professional schools,
participates in community services and holds social events.

AMERICAN MEDICAL WOMEN’S ASSOCIATION (AMWA)
The undergraduate alpha chapter of The American Medical Women’s
Association (AMWA) provides a supportive environment for women
seeking careers in medicine. To help members on their path AMWA
provides resources that include study groups, workshops, speakers in
the field, and encourages volunteering in the community.We will

FSU VOLUNTEER FIRST RESPONDERS UNIT
The Florida State University Volunteer First Responder Unit
functions as a Basic Life Support Quick Response Unit at Florida
State University. The unit is staffed by trained Emergency Medical
Care First Responders, as well as Emergency Medical Technicians. The
unit is under the Medical direction of the Health Center Medical
Director with direct oversight by a paramedic supervisor. The unit
is co-advised by the Chief of the FSU Police Department and the
Director of the Thagard Student Health Center. The unit provides a
safety net on the FSU campus in case of medical emergencies IN
ADDITION to the normal response already provided by the FSU Police
Department and the community 911 system. The unit is available to
any campus organization requesting assistance for campus events.

HEALTH AND EDUCATIONAL RELIEF FOR GUYANA (HERG)
This organization actively plans two medical mission trips each year
to Guyana, South America. Before the trips, the organization raises
funds and supplies for the one-week long mission. Our goal is to
bring a group of students together with the common interest of
serving Guyana, generating new service programs for Guyana, and
gaining clinical and cultural experience with patients and medical
providers.

HEALTH OCCUPATIONS OF AMERICA CLUB (HOSA)
The mission of the Florida State University Chapter of HOSA is to
educate students on various health careers and to give them the
leadership skills needed to further themselves in the attainment of
their ambitions as career professionals in the health care industry.
Various guest speakers attend the bi-weekly meetings giving students
exposure to a wide array of health careers. Students participate in
and lead community service and social events. Students are also
provided with the information and encouraged to join other health
related organizations on campus.
Meetings are held in room 203 Sandels Building, 8:00 pm every
other Wednesday night beginning September 10, 2008.

Occupational/Physical Therapy Interactive College Students
O.P.T.I.C.S.
A New Generation...A New Outlook on Medical Treatment.
Occupational/Physical Therapy Interactive College Students is an
effort between the pre-physical/occupational therapy students of
Florida State University to assist one another in preparation for
graduate school. The club provides a means by which
pre-physical/occupational therapy students can get to know each
other and help each other with planning, GRE preparation, and
physical/occupational therapy school applications. We will bring in
practicing physical and occupational therapists, current
physical/occupational therapy school students, and
physical/occupational therapy school recruiters in order to help
students understand the profession and gain knowledge of the
physical/occupational therapy school admissions process.

PRE-DENTAL SOCIETYThe goal of the Pre-Dental Society is to
teach students about the career of dentistry and provide them with
the resources and knowledge needed to assist them in getting into
dental school. This organization has a close working relationship
with the Florida Dental Association and the Leon County Dental
Association. A shadowing program has been established with the
Dental Hygiene/Assistant school at Tallahassee Community College and
the Leon County Health Clinic. Meetings are held twice a month and
include guest speakers from dental schools and working
professionals. All interested students are welcome to attend.

PRE-OPTOMETRY CLUB
The purpose of the Pre-Optometry Club is to encourage and educate
students who express an interest in pursuing a career in optometry.
Students will have opportunities to shadow optometrists and to meet
representatives from optometry schools. The club seeks to encourage

PRE-PHARMACY CLUBThe Pre-Pharmacy Club is a student
organization created by six Florida State University students in the
fall of 2003 for undergraduates who plan on pursuing careers in
pharmacy. The goal of the club is to provide resources and
opportunities to introduce undergraduates to the world of pharmacy.
In addition, the club seeks to help its members become the most
qualified applicants for pharmacy school.
The organization also seeks to encourage community involvement and
to present members with opportunities to serve the community through
volunteer service. By adding depth to members’ understanding of
pharmacy, the Pre-Pharmacy Club constantly strives to make its
members the best prepared and most informed applicants for the

PRE-VET CLUB
The purpose of the Florida State University Pre-Vet Club provides an
environment where students can expand their interests in veterinary
medicine. The students will be familiarized with the expectations
associated with pre-veterinary and veterinary education as well as
the veterinary profession itself. The Pre Vet Club will help build a
strong support group among pre veterinary students, therefore,
building strong friendships. Membership is open to all Florida State

STUDENT ASSOCIATION OF PRE-HEALTH PROFESSIONALS (SAAP)
The purpose of the Student Association of Pre-Health Professionals
(SAPP) is to offer a support system for students wanting to enter a
health field. We provide networking opportunities for all members by
educating them of different health fields. We offer members
opportunities to volunteer in health related fields around the
community and get to know fellow members through organized socials.
During the fall and spring semesters we have bi-weekly meetings with
speakers from various health fields and admissions board personnel.
During the summer we meet once a month. Also, we offer a scholarship
to members at the end of every spring semester. Our group caters to
the members’ needs and allows each individual a voice in the
organization’s actions.
