The Area Health Education Center (AHEC) Program Office is located
in the Department of Family Medicine and Rural Health, Division of
Health Affairs. The mission of AHEC is to create community and
academic partnerships to improve the health of underserved
communities. Andrée Aubrey is the Director of the AHEC Program at
FSU, which is a member of the National AHEC Organization (NAO) and
the Florida AHEC Network (FLAHECN) which is a nationally recognized
model comprised of the five AHEC Programs administered by Florida’s
medical schools at Florida State University, Nova Southeastern
University, the University of Florida, the University of Miami, and
the University of South Florida. These programs include ten
regional, community-based Area Health Education Centers that cover
all of Florida’s 67 counties. The AHEC Programs and Centers comprise
the Florida AHEC Network that works in partnership with other
agencies toward a common goal of addressing the primary care needs
of Florida’s medically underserved populations. Since its inception
in the mid 1980s, the FLAHECN has evolved into an extensive statewide
system for health professions education and support. Over the past
