The College of Medicine's Summer Institute is a one-week residential program on the campus of Florida State University designed for students who are committed to pursuing a career in the medical field. This year, the registration deadline is March 8.
The Summer Institute motivates students to excel academically, introduces them to a variety of clinical settings, provides ACT and SAT preparation, provides information about scholarships and university mentoring programs, gives them a perspective on the life of a medical student and inspires them to pursue careers in health care.
There are 18 students per session.These are the dates for this summer:
Among the opportunities and activities are physician shadowing; admission and financial-aid seminars; a research project on a health topic; college preparedness seminars; a medical-ethics workshop; mentoring from medical students; and recreational activities.
To be eligible, students must have completed their sophomore or junior year of high school. Applicants are selected based on these criteria:
The $900 cost covers registration, lodging, meals, transportation to site visits and supplies. Limited scholarships are available for qualified students who show financial need or extenuating circumstances.
