Dr. Joedrecka Brown Speights Named Leader for Health Equity Fellow

In January, 2017, Department of Family Medicine and Rural Health Associate Professor and Associate Chair, Joedrecka Brown Speights, M.D. was named a Leader for Health Equity Fellow.


The Leaders for Health Equity (LHE) is a new fellowship program offered by the George Washington University Health Workforce Institute through the generosity of the Atlantic Philanthropies. The vision of the Program is to develop global leaders who understand the foundations of health inequity and have the knowledge, skills, and courage to build more equitable organizations and communities.


In a recent American Journal of Public Health, authors assess state-level progress on eliminating racial disparities in infant mortality. Dr. Brown Speights, lead author states, “I’d like to see racial equality in infant survival in my lifetime, and some states are on the right track.”
